Start-ups can play an important role in the digitisation of the country

The Italian context

Italy is lagging behind in terms of digital culture. In the European Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) for 2018, it was in 25th place out of 28, a position that has remained unchanged since 2015. Digital skills are a strategic issue. For 2018, it was estimated that 85,000 new specialists would be needed, 65,000 of them first-time employees, more than half of them graduates, and for needs that can only be partially met. There is already a critical shortage for the roles of Data Scientist, Business Analyst, Project Manager, Security Analyst and others necessary for Digital Transformation projects.

The main obstacle to the adoption of technology in companies and public institutions is the difficulty for some entrepreneurs to understand the potential of digital solutions and how to use them.

In this scenario, start-ups can play an important role in giving the country and the companies themselves a new impetus. There are many in Italy (in June 2017 there were 7,398) but their growth is not yet optimal.

Our commitment

To promote a new digital culture in a systemic way, economically enhancing the numerous entrepreneurial ideas that arise in Italy in this sector.

For example, TILT organised the first Italian mission to the CES in Las Vegas, under the high patronage of the Ministry of Economic Development.
